History of Westerfield Cabins

Westerfield Cabin

The Westerfield family shipped our pine log cabin to this location from the east coast in 1977.  It was a private residence until 1982 when Jim and Marilyn Westerfield transformed the cabin and its land into a unique bed and breakfast with summer kitchen and custom wood deck which served as a quaint countryside bistro.  Jim and his son, Larry built the summer kitchen, now Westerfield Cottage, with their own hands by clearing the trees from what is now the parking area.  The Cottage, with its brick floor and custom stone fireplace, complete with a bread oven, is a wonder to behold!

Jim Westerfield, an accomplished musician and composer, enjoyed hosting lavish dinners to share his interests and talents.  With a great interest in horticulture and botany, he created over 60 unique culinary mints including Dulcia Citreus, or “Hillary’s Sweet Lemon Mint” which was delivered to then First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1993 and planted in the White House garden.  Jim’s creations live on in our gardens today where his mints, chives, and lemon balms still grow.  Marilyn Westerfield worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make entertaining as seamless as possible.  They took great pride in Westerfield House, a special retreat and bistro in the heart of these Illinois farmlands and catered extravagant, themed dinner parties that were especially festive during the holidays.

Westerfield Cabins has operated over the years as “Westerfield House”, “His Rest“, “The Anatolian Inn“, and “Westerfield Cottage”. It is currently owned and managed by the Underwood family.
